NJH Library
Instructor: Cindy Harris
The NJH library is open from 7:15 am to 3:15 pm each school day.  The library operates on a flexible schedule; however, English classes typically come to the library for checkout every other week.  Students may check out two items for two weeks at a time.  Overdue charges are 10 cents per day, per item. The library is staffed by three part-time certified librarians: Cindy Harris, Janice Kendrick, and Betty Wells.

Students are encouraged to participate in the Truman Readers Award Program.  The Truman Award Program is a reading program open to all 6th through 8th graders in the state of Missouri.  Each year a list of 12 nominated books is compiled by a selected group of librarians, teachers, and students representing library and educational organizations in Missouri.  Books on the Truman list are  selected to provide quality reading for a variety of tastes and interests of a more mature reader. While well written, they may contain content of potentially controversial subject matter or language for some readers. All books are not for all readers. Please choose carefully. The winning title is chosen in the spring by sixth through eighth grade Missouri students who have read or have been read to them at least 4 of the 12 nominees.   The winning author is honored at the annual Spring Conference of the Missouri Association of School Librarians (MASL).
Those who read six 2011-2012Truman nominees by March 1st will be invited to a pizza party at which they will win books/prizes.  There will be a special even in May for those who read all twelve of the nominees.
